Usage Notes - Onty EM browser for SNOMED and the CPT DTK

Starting Onty EM

If you have not already imported the data, please do so before proceeding. See the installation notes

Navigate to the "ontyem-1.0.3" folder, and open the "ontyem" application.

You will see the Onty EM splash screen while it starts.

Selecting the Connection

Each time you access the Onty EM browser you will see the following screen which lists the available connections. (This is relevant only if you are using multiple versions of the data)

Right click on the connection and select open.

Main Views

The initial screen is divided into three main views. The hierarchy view appears on the left, the concept viewer in the upper right, and the search view in the lower right.

Hierarchy View

You may navigate the hierarchical structure by traversing the tree. If you want to see the concept view of a concept in the hierarchy, double-click the concept, and it will appear in the concept view.

From the concept view you may locate the initial position of a concept in the hierarchy by pressing on the hierarchy icon.

You may also create an independent hierarchy view by selecting "Window" then "New hierarchy" from the menu bar, or clicking the hierarchy button on the tool bar.

Concept View

The following is an example of the concept view

You may navigate to other concepts by selecting the hyperlinks (the underlined elements).

The concept view may also be customized to show less information by toggling the "twisty" (the triangle preceding the bold section headings). In the following view, the "Isa" and "Guideline" sections have been toggled, leaving only the "Roles" section in detail.

SearchView

The search view allows you to search for a concept. As you begin typing it will suggest possible words which you may select to be inserted in the search box. When you press the space key to start a new word, a list of twenty concepts will appear as suggestions. As you continue typing these will update accordingly. If more than twenty results are available, the "next" button will be made available to go to the next set.

A concept in the search result list may be viewed in the concept viewer by double-clicking on it.

Configure the View Layout

The view layout may be configured by dragging the view tabs to other areas of the screen. For example:

Should you wish to restore the original layout, select "Window" then "Reset Perspective" from the menu bar.

Views may also be detached from the main layout by right clicking on a view tab and selecting "detach"
